Kendal Mountaineering Services offer outdoor activity weeks in Slovenia in Eastern Europe. From our base in the Soca valley near Bovec in western Slovenia, we offer the opportunity to do climbing, mountaineering, trekking, via ferrata, canoeing, kayaking, caving, canyoning, rafting and hydrospeed.
Slovenia is Eastern Europe’s premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Soca Valley is close to the Italian border and only and hour and a half from Venice Trevisio Airport which is serviced via Ryanair offering cheap flights from the UK. For people on a budget, Slovenia is still a relatively cost effecient destination.
The Chalet at Kal Koritnica sleeps 8 people in 4 rooms, there is a large dining and lounge area and a drying room for use after any wet sessions/days. Right outside the front door is a footpath up the striking ridge of Svinjac.
The scenery is stunning, high mountains surround you everywhere, some holding snow almost all year round, the deep valleys are wooded with amazing clear rivers full of large trout for the fishing enthusiast. Industry is predominantly agriculture and tourism. There are many footpaths; and relics from the first world war can be seen on every hillside.
The mountains of the region are limestone and are the eastern outliers of the Alps known locally as the Julian Alps. The highest peak is Triglav at 2864M glaciated until recently. The Triglav National Park is adjacent to the Bovec area and so an ascent made over two days is possible and there are numerous other options for mountaineering and Via Ferrata day trips in the area.
Rock climbing is also a popular pastime and there are many bolted climbing venues, we have a bolted crag very close to our Chalet at Kal Koritnica with a multitude of grades and this is an ideal place to be introduced to the sport.
Also, due to the nature of the rock caving abounds in the area so this is an ideal opportunity to check out this sport, big caves or small, wet or dry, there is something for everyone.
For people who fancy getting wet we have the Soca river. Whilst there are some very hard sections there are a number of easy sections for the novice paddler where we can canoe or Kayak and undertake river journeys learning new skills and having fun along the way. Rafting, hydrospeed and canyoning options are also available on this day
A typical weeks itinery will be to fly out on the Saturday and then have sunday to Friday doing the following activities - Sunday - a local walk, introduction to the area and history, Monday - rock climbing day, Tuesday/Wednesday an ascent of Triglav, Thursday - caving and Friday - river day. Saturday - return to Trevisio and the UK.
